MARIETTA, GA – Denotra E. Johnson’s new book, Lord, Thanks For The Journey, tells the remarkable story of a woman called from rural Mississippi to international ministry.
Born into a time of great difficulty for Black families in the South, Johnson’s early years were marked by generational trauma that included the lynching of her grandfather. After a devastating cancer diagnosis and a life of worldly success, she found herself at the brink of suicide before a divine redirection changed everything.
The memoir traces Johnson’s evolution from public relations professional to evangelist carrying the gospel into fourteen countries, including the Philippines, Russia, China, Jamaica, and England. She later founded Victory in Jesus Bible Faith Center in California’s High Desert with her late husband, Rev. Willard “JJ” Johnson.
Johnson recounts supernatural encounters, including a life-altering experience of the Holy Spirit that launched her into ministry, and the challenges of building a church while caring for her husband through Alzheimer’s disease. Now retired from pastoring, she continues to minister through speaking engagements and teaching, dedicating her time to encouraging others to walk faithfully on their own journeys.

Denotra E. Johnson is a pastor, evangelist, and the founder of Victory in Jesus Bible Faith Center in Apple Valley, California. She has ministered across the United States and in fourteen countries. A widow, mother of three, and cancer survivor, Johnson holds a background in communication, journalism, and public relations, though she credits her true preparation to years of spiritual formation. She now resides in Southern California, where she continues to teach and mentor.
