A Lonely Toolbox Learns the Power of Kindness in Mike J.B.’s Heartwarming Children’s Book, “The Very Angry Toolbox”

The Very Angry Toolbox by Mike J.B. introduces young readers to Leroy Boulder, a thoughtful eight-year-old boy who dreams of owning a toolbox just like his dad’s. When Leroy visits the industrial mart and discovers a grey, angry toolbox sitting alone on a shelf, he becomes curious about what could have made it so upset. As Leroy looks past the toolbox’s shouting and grumpiness, he discovers something much deeper: loneliness, fear, and a longing to be loved.

This delightful children’s story explores the idea that anger often hides bigger feelings underneath. Through Leroy’s compassion and patience, young readers are invited to consider how kindness, friendship, and second chances can help others change. The angry toolbox longs to make friends, be filled with his own tools, and help others in meaningful ways. What begins as a simple wish for a toolbox becomes a touching lesson about emotions, responsibility, teamwork, and the quiet pride of doing useful work well.

Literary Titan praised The Very Angry Toolbox as “a sincere and quirky children’s book with a big emotional engine,” highlighting its gentle message about anger, kindness, and giving someone a chance to change. The review also noted the warmth between Leroy, his dad, and his grandad, along with the way the story connects tools to memory, craftsmanship, and family pride.

With charming illustrations by Gemma Stanley, The Very Angry Toolbox brings workshop shelves, tools, screws, dust, and old wood to life in a way that feels both imaginative and familiar. The expressive toolbox and playful tool characters help soften the story’s deeper emotional themes, making it an engaging read for children who enjoy talking objects, building, tools, and hands-on creativity.

Perfect for families, classrooms, and children’s bookshelves, The Very Angry Toolbox offers a meaningful way to discuss feelings and emotions with young readers. It encourages children to think about how their feelings affect others and reminds them that patience, effort, and repair can matter in both practical and personal ways.
