Customer Background

This is a medium-sized mining processing enterprise in South America, mainly engaged in wet processing of associated minerals from copper mines. The filtration device in its process water circulation system was originally composed of two parallel old-style filter cartridges. It has long been plagued by frequent filter cartridge blockages, unstable spare parts supply, and insufficient on-site maintenance capabilities. Due to the presence of a large amount of coarse suspended particles and a small amount of sediment in the pulp water, the average lifespan of the filter cartridges is only three days, severely restricting the recovery rate of the processing and the reuse rate of wastewater.

Equipment selection

This enterprise focused on evaluating the throughput capacity and shock resistance of the equipment. Considering the pipe diameter of 125mm and the working pressure of approximately 5.5 bar in the pipeline, the JYMF-6P-304 model was selected. The side-inside-out interface design enables it to be directly connected in series without changing the direction of the main pipeline.

During the initial operation period, the customer selected 300-micron PP filter bags as the coarse filtration level, mainly to intercept the crushed rock debris and flocculent clumps in the mineral slurry. In the first week of operation, the operators recorded that the initial pressure difference was only 0.2 bar. After running continuously for three days, the pressure difference rose to 0.5 bar, which was still within the reasonable range. The filter bag steel rings were closely adhered to the inner wall of the filter, and no phenomenon of mineral slurry short circuit was observed.

Actual results

After a continuous one-month assessment, the enterprise achieved the following improvements:

The replacement cycle of the filter bags has been extended from the original three days to five days. Moreover, the cost of purchasing filter bags is much lower than that of imported filter bags, resulting in a significant reduction in consumable expenses.

Due to the improvement in filtration capacity, the accumulation rate of sludge in the downstream sedimentation tank has slowed down, and the cleaning frequency has been reduced from once a week to once every two weeks.

The operators reported that the quick-opening cover can be operated by a single person, and the bag changing process takes no more than fifteen minutes. Moreover, no special tools are required.

Revelation

For industrial and mining enterprises located in remote areas with limited maintenance support, filtering equipment that is simple in structure, has universal consumables, and is easy to replace is often more practically valuable than more complex models with higher parameters. In this case, the multi-bag filter, with its stable mechanical performance and low-cost maintenance, helped the customer solve the long-standing filtering bottleneck problem and provided a reference selection idea for similar coarse mineral processing scenarios.
