Portland, OR – On January 6th, 2024, Eliza Jane Schneider, a celebrated voice artist and dialectologist, successfully launched her new podcast, “Freedom of Speech,” with an evocative live performance and engaging community panel at Alberta Abbey in Portland. This event, rooted in a diverse cultural and social narrative, marked a significant moment in amplifying diverse American voices and experiences.

The evening began with powerful performances by Sean Cruz, Executive Director of the Jim Pepper Native Arts Council; Gary Ogan, Oregon Music Hall of Fame Inductee; and Rosa Linda, an Indigenous/Chicana Singer/Songwriter from Portland, Oregon. These performances set the tone for an evening of profound cultural exchange and dialogue.

The live performance, of Schneider’s award-winning one-woman play, showcased the first 103,000 miles of her 30 years of dialect research, bringing over 34 vibrant characters to life. Schneider’s talent for weaving comedy, music, and pathos entertained and enlightened the audience, providing a unique perspective on contemporary society.

The panel discussion that followed featured esteemed guests including Joe Bazeghi from Recovery Works NW, Jefferson Smith, host of the “Democracy Nerd” podcast, independent journalist Stephen Robinson, and Norman Turrill, President of the League of Women’s Voters of Oregon. The panelists brought a wealth of knowledge and insights, contributing to the event’s theme of fostering inclusive and comprehensive dialogue.

The event’s significance was heightened by its timing, coinciding with the anniversary of the insurrection, symbolizing a commitment to advocacy for diverse and inclusive narratives in our society.

For those unable to attend, the event was live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook, making it accessible to a global audience. For a limited time only the live stream is still available on YouTube for interested viewers. This ensured that Schneider’s message of cultural diversity, inclusivity, and the importance of preserving dialects reached far beyond the walls of Alberta Abbey.

The podcast which promises to bring over 7,000 interviews from around the world to life, will be available onSaturday, January13th, 2024 for free through https://www.patreon.com/elizajaneschneider. This podcast launch is a continuation of the enriching experience, offering audiences an ongoing opportunity to engage with diverse stories and perspectives.
